Marking the 25th anniversary of the John Waters' original film, Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly brought together an all-star cast of Broadway, film and TV stars for the full symphonic production of the Broadway musical, Hairspray. Hairspray: In Concert! premiered with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Jan. 11-13, 2013, and will premiere with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Jan. 24-27, 2013. Marin Alsop Leads BSO in Music from Film ALEXANDER NEVSKY, Now thru 1/13

The concert hall is transformed into the movie theater when the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), lead by Music Director Marin Alsop, with soprano Irina Tchistjakova and the Baltimore Choral Arts Society perform Sergei Prokofiev's music score from Sergei Eisenstein's classic 1938 motion picture Alexander Nevsky. The BSO and guests will perform this majestic score live while the film is projected behind them tonight, January 11, 2013 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore.

Yan Pascal Tortelier Leads BSO in Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, 1/31-2/2

One of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's (BSO) most popular guest conductors, Yan Pascal Tortelier, returns to lead the BSO in Ravel's arrangement of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition on Thursday, January 31, 2013 and Friday, February 1, 2013 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore. The program also features returning pianist Orion Weiss, who will perform Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 27. Also on the program is Hindemith's Concert Music for Strings and Brass. Larry the Cable Guy Performs at the Meyerhoff, Feb. 16

Multiplatinum recording artist, Grammy nominee and Billboard award winner Larry the Cable Guy is scheduled to perform his signature stand-up comedy at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Fellow comedian Reno Collier, best known as the opening act for Larry the Cable Guy and his own Comedy Central Presents special, will also take the stage. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and 104 students from the Howard County Gifted and Talented Orchestra will play Side-by Side in a concert led by Maestro Shizuo Kuwahara on February 20, 2013 at 7:30 pm at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This new partnership will commence in a special concert featuring works by Elgar, John Adams and Mahler. Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop have been acclaimed for their performances and recordings of Czech master Antonin Dvorak. Tonight, November 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and November 17 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, the BSO will perform Dvorak's lyrical Eighth Symphony and Brahms' poetic Piano Concerto No. 2, performed by pianist Denis Kozhukhin in his BSO debut.

BSO Announces OrchLab, a Music Education Program to Serve Montgomery County Students

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in partnership with the Montgomery County Public Schools announces OrchLab, a music-in-schools program for elementary, middle and high school students in Montgomery County. OrchLab was created to enrich the instrumental music program in schools within the MCPS system that have the greatest need, as well as to provide professional development opportunities for MCPS music instructors. For the 2012-2013 academic year, OrchLab will be piloted in 23 of the schools located in the Downcounty and Northeast Consortia of the MCPS System.
