A southern Indiana theatre will premiere a new musical about Lincoln's Indiana boyhood years in the summer.

The two-act musical play A.LINCOLN: A Pioneer Tale will debut at Lincoln Amphitheatre in June.

Playwright Ken Jones has written a new play for Lincoln Amphitheatre that will be a new family-friendly presentation of Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood story in a two-act musical production. A Pioneer Tale will include an original score of ten songs.

"This new musical will show that as the boy grew to a man in Indiana, and through determination of spirit and a compassion for the people, this common American achieved greatness. With this new musical play, audiences will experience and celebrate the life and times of this extraordinary man through song, dance, and spectacle," says Jones.

A. LINCOLN: A Pioneer Tale will premiere at Lincoln Amphitheatre on Friday, June 8 and run Wednesday to Saturday evenings until June 30 with one Sunday matinee on July 1.

Two theatres partner for musical summer plans

The Evansville Civic Theatre and Lincoln Amphitheatre will partner for the second time to present Rodgers and Hammerstein's production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.

The two-act musical play is about Joseph, a boy with prophetic dreams, who is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt. He experiences a series of adventures that challenge him on a spiritual level. The musical arrangement styles range from country-western to bubble gum pop, and rock n' roll.

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT will be directed by Evansville Civic Theatre's Managing Artistic Director Chris Tyner. He said the production will have a "modern storytelling twist."

Lincoln Amphitheatre will administer the musical and provide stage, administrative staff and the marketing campaign while Civic Theatre will direct, choreograph, cast actors and supply the creative elements for costuming and props.

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT will run Wednesday-Saturday evenings beginning on Friday, July 20 to Saturday, August 4 with one matinee on Sunday, August 5.

New play about Lincoln's Civil War years to debut in the spring

An original play about Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War will debut at Lincoln Amphitheatre in the spring.

Father Gavin Barnes, OSB, a Benedictine Monk from Saint Meinrad, wrote BETWEEN FRIENDS: a two-act about the relationships and conversations between President Lincoln and General Ulysses S. Grant and General William T. Sherman during the Civil War.

Barnes has been a Benedictine Monk at Saint Meinrad since 1947. He has a degree from Northwestern University in speech and theatre. He was the drama director at Saint Meinrad for 38 years.

BETWEEN FRIENDS will debut on Friday, April 27 and run Friday and Saturday evenings with one Sunday matinee until May 5.
