Madame Walker Theatre Center to Stream President Obama's Inauguration, 1/21

-Madame-Walker-Theatre-Center-Streams-President-Obamas-Inauguration-on-Dr-MLK-Jr-Day-20010101

The Madame Walker Theatre Center celebrates the first African-American U.S. President on one of the most of the most historically acclaimed Holidays of the year. January 21st, 2013 is DR. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as well as the inauguration of President Obama as the 44th President of the United States. The Walker will stream the inauguration, happening in Washington D.C., live in the historic 937-seat theatre.

Traditionally, the morning starts with a free community breakfast at the Indianapolis Urban League. The continental breakfast, donated by Real Taste Catering will begin at 9:30am and available to the first 150 people in line. Following the breakfast, the Indianapolis Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will lead the masses from the Urban League down Indiana Avenue to the doors of the historic Madame Walker Theatre Center symbolizing the freedom we now have as a result of DR. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy.

The program in the theatre will begin at 11am with remarks by local officials and a short performance by local poet, Januarie York. In partnership with the Indianapolis Chapter of the Indiana Black Expo, Thomas Griffin (President of the Chapter) will host the event. Streaming of the inauguration will begin at 11:30a until the end President Obama's speech. Iibada Dance Company will end the day's program.

Amos Brown from Radio One's AM 1310 The Light will do a live broadcast remote to gather reactions from the crowd and commentate during the inauguration. On his show, Brown discusses important issues allowing listener's access to local and national leaders in an environment of civility and respect.

Also happening between 10am and 2pm are "Stories about Madam" performed by Freetown Village in the Heritage Center on the first floor. Performances will be presented every Thursday in February beginning Valentine's Day and are free and open to the public.

Copies of Thomas Ridley's first book, From the Avenue: A Memoir, will be available for sale.

Order of day on Jan. 21, 2013 is as follows:
